Clementien and Bill Wolferstan

Your Hosts Image

Your hosts for part of the 2010 season will be Clemetien and Bill Wolferstan.

Clementien and Bill Wolferstan have sailed the British Columbia coast for almost fifty years (Bill, since childhood and Clementien, since she met Bill in 1974). Their love for the BC coast led them to write a series of Cruising Guides.

Clementien was born in Holland and is fluent in Dutch, French and English; while Bill was born in Vancouver he continues to struggle with all languages but is most at home sailing, reading a book or telling stories .....

While on an extended European boating holiday in 1990 (three months - five countries - a different boat each week - with four children plus tutor) Clementien realized that to continue this adventure it had to be on one vessel at a slower pace.

In 1995 they discovered Linquenda, and since then they (occasionally assisted by sons Jon, Matt, Tom or daughter Liz) have shared the joys of discovering Europe's unique system of inland waterways by inviting friends, relatives and europophiles* of any nationality to join them as guest crews.

Dianna and Jonathan married in February 2007 having spent the last four years happily sailing the Georgia basin in the Pacific Northwest. They've also traveled together in Cuba and France. Currently they split their time between Vancouver— where Jonathan crafts magical objects out of wood and Dianna explores the interface between urban planning and poetry— and Europe, where they both enjoy the pleasure of living afloat.

Previous to their time together, Dianna and Jonathan spent many years traveling by sailboat, train, bicycle, bus and foot throughout Europe, Asia, and South America. Highlights include crossing the Alps by bicycle en route from Paris to Croatia and waking up to: 'coffee! chai! chai! coffee!' on the trains of India.

Dianna and Jonathan have also worked in hospitality on British Columbia's coast and in Europe. They are both looking forward to enjoying more of the waterways of France, to say nothing of dipping into France's fine wines and cheeses together with you as guests and crew!
